John L. Heaton: Born on a farm near Canton, he went on to become editor-in-chief of his friend Joseph Pulitzer’s newspaper The New York World, whose paper was manufactured in Pyrites. He was also a founder of Columbia University’s Pulitzer School of Journalism Advisory Board, and a Pulitzer Prize judge. Graduated from SLU in 1880.
